Challenge

A global pharmaceutical organisation faced rapidly growing demand and needed to transform its global supply chain — simultaneously upgrading planning capabilities, digital and data foundations, organisational design and governance, without disrupting supply of critical products.

Role

Leadership of the global supply-chain strategy and transformation office, accountable for a multi-workstream enterprise transformation programme covering digital and data, planning, complexity reduction, segmentation, people and organisation, and programme governance — including budget accountability and enterprise risk management for the transformation agenda.

Approach

The transformation was structured into governed workstreams with clear benefit-realisation tracking and delivery assurance. Governance frameworks were deliberately scaled as the function grew roughly tenfold, keeping decision-making fast while the organisation matured. The digital agenda included data-platform architecture decisions, AI and automation readiness assessments, and the framing of a GenAI decision-support capability for supply-chain planners — with explicit design choices about where AI augments planning decisions and where human judgement is retained.

Outcome

An established, functioning transformation office with governed workstreams, transparent executive reporting, an enterprise risk framework and benefit-realisation tracking — and a digital and data agenda moving from ambition to concrete architectural and organisational decisions.
